Currently working in the testing and commissioning department, working on and learning about HVAC systems on board the boat.
Learned new skills such as how to look up drawings and read them to follow a system on the boat if changes are to be made to it.
The work is interesting and good to learn about, and the team is easy to get along with. The placement has met my expectations.
Apprentices have a good amount of input into their roles and what they do at their placements. Very involved, and get recognition for the work that is done.
Induction and training has been good, and have time to study if needed. Reviews and meetings with manager are helpful to see where you are at. The rota for placements has changed a few times, which can be confusing though.
From the college, a good amount of support is given if needed. A lot of past papers are given out to help with studying for the exam.
A lot of support is given from my manager, and any issues can be easily discussed if needed.
Salary is very good and meets all travel/living costs with money to spare for going out etc.
There are a lot of opportunities outside of work to work with STEM at events and in schools.
Yes
The apprenticeship is a good opportunity to learn whilst gaining practical experience.
Prepare for the interviews but don't stress about it too much.
