GTAM PMC Apprentice for national grid, this involves maintenance on the big transmission pipelines feeding the country its gas supply, and also moving it all around the country, my daily tasks can be very varied and can differ from day to day. E.g. Maintaining pipework, replacing damaged or defective pieces of pipes, or valves, and maintaining the system already in place.
I have learned some basic mechanical skills, at various training sites, and also on my base location as well, and my skills are becoming more and more advanced each day, I am also gaining qualifications, these include an NVQ and BTEC in mechanical Engineering, and I am also working towards the HNC.
I enjoy the day to day life of work, as I am learning some very valuable skills, that are near impossible to learn anywhere else, at this high standard. This is everything I expected it to be, and much more.
I feel like I am a valuable part of National Grid, and I am also part of the future of the company, and my experience will only grow and grow.
My programme is structured well, and there is a nice balance between time on site, and time at college/training etc. My mentor is very helpful and offers me a lot of guidance and support.
I receive a lot of support, and I am shown different things all the time, and if i was to ever have any problems, there are lots of people i can speak to, to help resolve these issues, should they ever arise.

My salary package does meet my costs effectively, however i feel like this could be potentially increased, as a lot of time is spent away from home, and this can be difficult at times.
There are many voluntary events which can be readily joined etc, before i was working, i spent the majority of my time at sixth form, furthering my education.
Yes
I believe this is a good stable company to work for, and it offers a lot of perks and positives, that a lot of companies would not usually provide, and it also gives you one of the best starting points to start a long and enjoyable career.
One of the biggest tips I would give, is to be yourself, throughout the interview process, and maintain a good level of professionalism.
