The morning hub commences at 08:30am, where our supervisor gives us our jobs for the day. We are normally split up into teams of 2 for the working day. The jobs we undertake can be anything from gas compressor related to valve maintenance. We often also deal with faults that arise through the working day.
So far in my apprenticeship experience I have attended lots of techanical/safety training supplied by National Grid. On top of this I have also gained a BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering along with my PEO Level 2. I am currently working towards my HNC in Mechanical Engineering and also my NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Maintenance.
The programme in which we are part of is a programme in which enhances your personal and technical skills to a high level. The company provide adequate training in order to ensure high competency. There is also a good team spirit within the apprenticeship group which can also be reflected for the whole company.
National Grid value each employee, there are recognition systems in place to ensure that those who go beyond their normal duties get the reward they deserve.
The organisation and support of the programme varies however this has improved since starting with the company in 2015.
There is adequate support provided from the training provider, more support is often given from your mentor who is also based on your base location.

Most travel expenses whilst travelling to training are covered. The salary is above average for what an apprenticeship would receive.
