  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before the apprenticeship I had gained 11 GCSE's and did a year at college. from the apprenticeship I am gaining a level 3 in Business management. I have also been put on multiple training courses so far and am planned to be put on more in the future. for example I have done respect and banter in the work place, resillience training and a wasted lives session. Out of work i have also attended a week with the outward bound trust to further develop and learn new skills and I am taking part in an exchange where I go to Germany for three weeks. I have developed professional and personal skills, like networking, communication and organisational skills and I have understood the foundation and the structure of the company through a tailored induction. I have learned how the company works and how to conduct myself in a professional environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the work that I do because I feel that it stretches me yet I do not feel stressed and it actively develops my skills. the work I do is interesting and stimulating and I feel that I hold responsibility. I get on really well with my team, they have welcomed me into the team and make me feel at ease. I feel that I have a good working relationship with them but feel that I get on with them well at the same time. I am fond of the company culture, it is a relaxed and friendly environment but holds a professional work place at the same time. everyone is happy to help and I feel that if I am stuck with anything the aid of someone else's help is accessible and not far. the company have exceeded my expectations, with the support and help I've been offered as well as the quality of work and responsibility ive been given. so far i have really enjoyed my apprenticeship and am looking forward to a career with the company.

I feel that I get full ownership of the work i have completed and get wide recognition and exposure in the company because of this. We can also get internally recognised by being given an above and beyond award or get externally recognised by being put forward for an apprentice of the year award. i feel that i am widely thanked and appreciated when i complete a job for example when i completed the graduation ceremony i received multiple emails wishing me well done. • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • During my first few weeks, I had a tailored induction including site tours, buddy days and awareness sessions. We received training on how to conduct ourselves in a professional environment and received refresher sessions on how to send emails and what is and isn't acceptable in an office. We were introduced to our support systems, who are our placement managers, our placement officers, trade unions reps, assessors and hr line managers. We also have reviews every 12 weeks with our assessors and managers, where a behaviour matrix is filled out. I also have fort nightly meetings with placement officer to discuss how it is going and have probationary reviews where all of my mentors attend and review my development. tasks are delegated well to me by my manager, ensuring that i have the right amount of work to do rather than too much or not enough. my manager knows the right time to set me off on a new task to ensure my work is balanced correctly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider. within the training school we have hr managers who we are in regular contact with, an assessor who marks our nvq work and a placement officer who decides where we go next in the company. I meet up with my hr manager quarterly to review my progress although am in regular contact through email, meet up with my placement officer every three weeks to review how my placement is going, and have reviews every 12 weeks with my assessor although attend college weeks once a month where I see them then.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support from my manager having regular reviews to discuss my progress in the company and on the work I am doing, support is also hugely accessible on the intranet and I know that if I am struggling with anything or need any advice on work related or home issues I can call different internal helplines or go to the appropriate people for help. the company has a great attitude towards supporting your colleagues and helping each other.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • my salary meets my costs well as I am only 17 and still living at home. I think that the wage is generous for an apprenticeship and it is enough to allow me to save money, put money into my pension scheme and also put money into BAE shares. I feel that the salary meets my costs of living as well as letting me invest in to my future.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are various opportunities given outside of work, like the princes trust for example. we are given the opportunity to get involved in this and help other young people gain skills for the work place. we also attended a talk from the army and are given the opportunity an time off work to join the army reserves, this is an out of work scheme although the company supports it. I am also getting involved in a german exchange where I go to Germany for three weeks with the company and work with another aerospace company for the time im over there. they then come over to the uk and work with me.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE systems because it is an amazing company with great values and will support and guide you throughout your learning and development. it is a great way to invest in your future and have a long term career and I believe that as a company it will grow so it is useful for you to be able to be apart of this journey. the company will provide you will opportunities and training like no other company will and guide you throughout your career to ensure success/

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would advise to get involved in as many extra curricular activities as possible and ensure that you have a good and in depth application. prepare for the online tests by doing practises online and if you get an interview ensure that you have as much knowledge about the company as possible before going in. Be confident, outgoing and friendly but most importantly be yourself. if you do get a place you will then be onboarded so make sure you give as much information as possible about yourself to ensure a smooth and non length process. I wish that I was told to have more company knowledge.
