Rail electrification apprentice Review

I a Siemens Rail electrication apprentice. This entails me going to college once a week where I am working towards a level 3 NVQ in engineering. On other day I visit various sub station where I shadow electricians and engineers. In substations we deal with installation of switchgears as well as all the required electrical configurations for the substation like lighting, heating, cable routing etc.

I have dramatically improved my engineering knowledge as well as hand skills. I. Ow understand the design process a lot better as well as jobs of the actual rlectic components. I also I understand basic electrical principles a lot better and some crucial information industrial skills.

I enjoy it a great a great deal, it an opportunity many don’t get in a booming industry. The apprenticeship as allowed me to mature and meet a lot get great professional who I can learn loads from. Also I have been able to get stuck in into the room rather than been just an on looker.

Siemens have invested a lot of money on which they will not reap the rewards if In the immediate because as an apprentice I only have limited skills which do not benefit the company right now. Also Siemens ensure that I have everything I need so I can focus on my role and give me the best opportunity to be a successful apprentice l.

The structure is good but far from perfect. Siemens Raul electrification are still relatively new to taking on apprentice hence they are still structurally improving. However they still ensure all apprentices have the essentials they need to be successful.

I receive all the support I require. Particularly as I have been assigned a mentor this as been the most crucial aspect of my development as this as allowed me to have a more centralised attention and direct reference and teaching.

Siemens organise trainging courses and also invite apprentices to trains which are essential. As an apprentice it difficult to gauge the exact trading you require so I leave it to Siemens to provide the trading and I simply try to benefit from them.

The salary is good and it improves based on meeting targets. The salary only just meet my cost and times it doesn’t. I believe the salary should be more as living in London can be costly and some apprentices have dependents and a lot of financial obligations.

Since Siemens is a global multi-national co-operation they are many possibilities outside work from team building activies to charity events and the likes. Many go university and come out unemployed with a bag of debts and no relevant work experience. Whereas I have witnessed in my short time as an apprentice a person can gain so much relevant experience and quickly ascend the structural hierarchy all the whole earning money and enjoying all the company perks that comes with working for Siemens. Many go uni not knowing what career they want to persuit but with a told as a Siemens apprentice your put yourself in better place as it relates to a career path.
