As an engineering technician apprentice my roles are to learn how to complete my tasks in each of my placements and keeping track of how I completed them. It is my responsibility to retain this training so that i will be qualified to do my job once I have completed my apprenticeship. The different placements that I have different types of projects to be completed which gives me an all-round view of what my job will entail each day.
During the course of my apprenticeship so far i have gained many qualifications such as a HNC in mechatronic engineering and an SVQ level 2. Health and safety courses have to be completed in order to work in some areas of the workplace such as working at heights and confined spaces. I have also gained much experience with computers as it is a requirement in the office workplace.
I enjoy working at my apprenticeship because I am always learning new things. I also enjoy it as it requires me to work in part of a team most days so you meet new people. I feel this is great as I thought that the workplace would be the complete opposite and everyone would work indevidually.
I feel well valued by BAE systems as they have invested a lot of money into training me to this job. I also have a review every twelve week period dso that managers can discuss with me how I feel ad to see if I am getting the correct type and amount of training at my workplace. There is also an apprentice council which is an internal organisation that is set up to get any points across to our superiors.
The apprenticeship is very well organised as at the start the expected progress and work plan for the apprenticeship was highlighted in a presentation. It showed the training courses necessary, the different paths that we could take after the apprenticeship, different support options for us and what qualifications we would have by the end of the apprenticeship.
There are points in the apprenticeship where guidance is needed as the tasks that need to be completed are new to you; however once completed, tasks are logged so that they can be referred to rather than requiring help again. I enjoy this as it makes me feel like i am a more independent worker and can complete tasks by myself.
At work i have always recieved adequate support from the departments in work when i have required it.
I feel that the salary frovided is adequate in covering travel costs and living cost , although as time goes on the salary improves.
There are many opertunities to participate in outside of work such as charity events as well as stem ambassador training courses.
Yes
Over ther course of my apprenticeship so far i have felt that BAE Systems is good good employer and open door to many possibilities for the future.
That team working skills is possibly one of the most important factors that the company looks for within a person applying for the job.
