Job title - Electrical & instrumentation operations apprentice Currently in my first year I'm required to do quite a lot of travelling for training around the country. both practical and not, however the standard of training and the quality of recourses completely rule out and doubts you may have about staying away from home. so when I am not training I am on site learning from those who are already qualified and have excellent knowledge. as I am in my first year I do not have many responsibilities however when I become more competent I will have more responsibilities.
I have learned many new skills with national grid, I have been put on many courses already with my colleagues and I am currently working towards a Btec qualification, and then an HNC. this will develop me as an employee much more.
The team I work with couldn't be more knowledgeable and supportive when it comes to helping with work or answering any questions I may have. the work is always challenging yet achievable meaning you get lots of satisfaction from it. the company culture surprised me because coming into the company as an apprentice makes you feel like a minority. but not at National Grid, you are accepted as another employee and treated fairly. the apprenticeship has exceeded my expectations and as an overall I thoroughly enjoy it.
at national grid I feel extremely values as they treat apprentices as the future of the company. this in my opinion is how it should be.
the organization is fantastic, the year is planned out for us with clear indication as to whether we're training or on site. and any updates are emailed directly through to us.
The training is outstanding and support is always there when you need it.
the employer is as fantastic as the training provider, I have a mentor and he will always check that training is going well.
the salary exceeds what I expected and I have no issues, also the opportunities within national grid mean that the salary can increase depending on where you wish to go within the company.
there are plenty of opportunities at national grid to volunteer at careers events and other things similar.
Yes
National Grid is an all round great company to work for and I couldn't fault the training.
be yourself and think outside the box, be prepared to work hard and reap the rewards from doing so.
