I was part of external audit team for the core assurance team at PwC. I was involved in various roles including auditing areas including PPE, cash, COS, opex and many areas of aura files. I was also involved in client communications and planning procedures that take place before an audit.
I have learnt how to test many transactions including cash, PPE and also the different risks that underlie different FSLI areas. I have developed my communication skills as well as organisation skills.
I enjoy having the placement in the middle of the year, it spreads out the course and gives great practical experience that can be applied after the degree. It also enhances my skills as I have gained lots of new skills from working at PwC that I can take back and apply to university.
I have received great feedback from members above my grade at PwC therefore this shows I am recognised for the work I have performed. I have been involved with office gatherings therefore I feel part of the broader team.
There is lots of support available and guidance. The training before placement is very useful as it gives an overview of what is expected from us at placement. Also the layout of the course has worked well as we sat the audit exam before working at PwC therefore we had technical knowledge that I applied at work.
We are given buddies and university contacts to which we are able to contact if any help is required therefore a large variety of support is available. Throughout placement our university contact also checks if there are any problems by regularly dropping emails ensuring we are sufficient therefore this shows that we have a wide range of support mechanisms.
There is lots of support available and these are broadcasted and made clear of where to go if you need to reach out to these people. A people manager is given to each individual to which is very useful as they are able to help you with any queries you may have. An incharge is designated on each audit team therefore you are able to contact this person if you need any help and they are always more than happy to help you with any queries.
It sufficiently meets my costs that I still have money left over after paying for necessities.
There are ICAEW networking events that can be attended since we are ACA ICAEW students therefore we have access to these opportunities
