I am an engineering apprentice at an engineering college fulltime, with various site visits throughout the course. On a day to day basis I have various practical tasks or written assignments I have to complete involving multiple engineering type subjects, such as, mechanical and electrical principles.
Yes, I have gained multiple new skills since joining this apprenticeship along with various BTEC qualifications. They new skills range from basic hand skills, such as welding and metal work to running a miniature sized plant to prepare for site.
I enjoy this programme very much as it gives me a very broad spectrum of engineering, as it is not just specific to a certain type of engineering. I also like the mix of practical work and written work as it gives me multiple ways of learning along with greater experience.
I feel highly valued by AstraZeneca as they always take the time to check how I am doing at the training college and they want me to push for the highest possible grades, which shows they care. Good work is always well recognised by my apprentice managers/team leaders during my personal reviews.
The programme itself is organised very well however I sometimes feel that the training college is not always best prepared for certain outcomes, as there have been a few occasions where time is filled with the class being left to our own devices for self learning, rather than being trained. The support received here is great.
The support I recieve from my training provider is excellent. There are always training officers with great experience ready for any questions or guidance.
I recieve a great amount of support from my employer. They always adive me to ask questions when i have a queery and take the time out of their day to come visit to ask if I need any additional support with anything in particular.
I dont have to travel too far to the training college as I live relatively near. The salary we recieve gives me enough to enjoy the month whilst still saving some money.
So far, there have not been many opportunities for me to take part in anything outdside of work, however, I am sure this will change when i work on site.
Yes
So far I have enjoyed my time doing this apprenticeship and I feel it is a great way to gain knowledge and practical experience. The managers at AstraZeneca always show they care and give a great ampount of support and guidance.
Show that you are genuinely interested in the company and what the company do, try to ask good questions when appropriate and be talkative not shy.
