Flying start degree programme - FS1, Milton Keynes. I worked within multiple audit teams with the aim of completing the client audit. On a day-to-day basis, I have communicated with client staff to obtain relevant deliverables to enable testing to be performed. Testing has been performed across various financial statement line items, including cash and cash equivalents, equity and accounts payable.
When working in a professional environment, I have had the opportunity to develop various skills. I have developed my understanding of using new programmes such as Aura and have also improved my use of Microsoft tools. Placement has allowed me to quickly develop my communication skills as I have a high degree of interaction with client staff.
The placement aspect of my programme has helped to develop my understanding and I have enjoyed being able to apply the theory I have gained in a professional environment. The experience of placement has given me opportunities to develop in multiple areas and carry forward my development to future clients and placements. I have really enjoyed learning new skills and theory whilst on placement and applying this to work.
Senior team members have always expressed how as an FS1 I am appreciated within the team. PwC staff are always positive and willing to help at any time. Within the office there are monthly recognition nominations which are motivating and rewarding to achieve. The opportunity to be nominated and to nominate others within the office can clearly express an individuals value within PwC.
The programme is well structured and I feel as though I am always aware and updated on any relevant events/dates. There are a number of individuals that represent both the university and PwC that regularly communicate important updates. Having specific individuals who organise the programme helps to remain organised and to easily contact individuals if there are any concerns.
The university has a number of individuals to provide support whenever required. Having specified persons at university to contact makes communication efficient. I always feel as though there is sufficient support at university which can be utilised at all times, even when away on placement. The support received from my training provider is an excellent resource.
When joining PwC for my first placement, I was introduced to multiple individuals who would be available to provide support. I have an assigned people manager who I regularly communicated with to discuss my progress. I also had 2 buddies who had already experienced working as an FS1. Having these specific individuals to contract made me feel supported whilst on placement.
Whilst on placement, I was provided with accommodation. This accommodation was of a very high quality and was located within a short walking distance of the office. The salary we received was appropriate and the opportunity to gain overtime pay was also excellent. Expenses relating to travel were reimbursed and this was an easy process to complete.
There are numerous opportunities outside of work available to all members of the office. These events are advertised regularly through email communication and invites are received through google calendar. Events include month-end socials, badminton, football, quiz nights and board game nights. These opportunities outside of work gave me the opportunity to build my network and develop relationships with people within the office.
