My current role is a trading analyst on the Europe Middle Distillate trading bench. I provide analytical insight into market fundamentals to traders and help generate new ideas and influence their positions. My main role in doing this is through tracking ship movements across Europe and reporting this to enable greater understanding and more insight into the current state of the market in terms of supply and demand. I get first hand interaction with front line traders on a daily basis along with connecting with external contacts such as brokers, port agents and charterers.
I have been able to develop my analytical skills and help increase my knowledge and understanding of market fundamentals and the main drivers of price movement.
I really enjoy the programme, I work in a team of grads of a similar age and it is generally quite relaxed albeit hard working. The company culture at BP really exceeding my expectations and I feel like it is very easy to be involved and settle in quickly upon joining.
I feel very valued and receive recognition for the good pieces of work I produce whether that be straight from the traders or by my manager. I am given a good amount of responsibility and am recognised as a capable worker who is able to handle important and demanding tasks.
Its very well organised with a regular schedule of sessions from experienced people within the company to help improve our knowledge and understanding, ultimately pointing us in the right direction and allowing us to acquire the correct knowledge and skills to reach the end goal of becoming a trader.
I receive a decent amount of support and feel comfortable going to the trainer at any point with questions I may have.
I gain a good amount of support however am not reliant on my manager/team. This enables me to really make the most of my role and expand beyond the regular day job, digging into areas I personally am most interested in where I can see value being added.
Very. More than enough for a decent standard of living in London along with a nice little bit of pocket money on the side.
Yes, I am currently involved in a 5 a side football team with other employees at BP. I am also a member of the local indoor golf driving range which has subsidised membership through being a BP employee, this also goes for the attached gym. In terms of volunteering opportunities, BP offers the chance to mentor pupils at a nearby primary and secondary school and often holds events to help benefit the community that you can sign up to.
Yes
BP is a top company to work for. By being an employee you immediately gain respect from others in the industry and it opens up opportunities and prospects that you can't find elsewhere.
Be yourself. Don't try too hard. You're not expected to know everything about oil or trading before you start.
