I work in a branch for Lloyds Bank. I am currently a Personal Banking Adviser and deal with all aspects of personal banking; this includes bank accounts, savings, credit cards, loans and overdrafts. I am also able to complete Agreement in principles for mortgages and open business accounts. I joined the bank in early 2015 as a Customer Service Assistant.
Moving into a new role meant the Level 3 apprenticeship helped with expanding on existing knoewledge and also filling any knowledge gaps that existed for the financial services market. There were parts of learning that make you look at things outside of your immediate job role.
Overall the programme was very enjoyable. There are parts that are more enjoyable than others but on the whole I would highly recommend the programme for anyone who would like to gain additional knowledge and understanding of the environment they work within.
There is a huge focus and enriching environment at Lloyds Banking Group. It is never too much trouble to pick up the phone and call someone to ask questions about a role you have seen or how you can improve on anything. You will get out as much as you put into your work and there are a huge number of opportunities available if you want them.
There was a very clear structure for the programme. During my first apprenticeship you can quickly see that there is a set process to follow and the tutor is always available to answer any questions. The format made sure that there was a clear progression and you continued to build on knowledge throughout the apprenticeship.
I did not have the need to ask for much support during the programme. I had 2 occassions where I needed to ask for support during the programme and both times I was able to email my tutor who responded within 48 hours of me emailing him.
It was difficult to begin with to get enough time within working hours to completed everything that was required. As I progressed through the programme I got better at managing my time and ensuring I was discussing with managers the time I needed to cover the material that was required. There was also a need to complete some work at home during evenings and weekends.
The job role comes with an excellent package with a huge number of benefits. Salary is competetive compared to market costs. Any travel required by work is covered and there is opportunity to attend additional events and meetings if you wish to.
There are a huge number of different groups and events are run year round by the bank. Last year I was able to take 4 days to completed a charity event which was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. If you want to do things outside of work then you will certainly be able to.
Yes
It is a great environment to work in - there is a huge scope for developing and you can easily move between different departments and learn new skills if you wish. I also feel there is a security in having a job role going forward. If you are skilled and able to adapt you will always be able to find something within the bank.
Speak to people currently working within the bank. Go into branch and ask to speak to someone about job roles that have come up. The interviews follow a very specific format which if you are well prepared become very simple. Speak to a hiring manager if you are able to and ask about the role you are applying for. Once joining be very clear about what your goals and aspirations are - find a role model and discuss with them about them being your mentor as I've found this a huge help.
