I am an apprentice butcher, and my role is to learn about all the different cuts of the meat and how to break them down by muscle and specific orders. This involves me following the instructions of my mentors so that I can take the cuts of pork from a full cut down to all the separate parts. These include shoulders, legs, belly’s and middles.
I have learnt many new skills during this apprenticeship as I have never done this before so everything has been a new experience to me. I value the skills I’ve learned during the course so far are very valuable and I take pride in this as they help me complete my job on a day to day basis.
I am really enjoying the programme because I am very happy coming into work and cracking on with everything, as the staff and environment are friendly and welcoming. This makes it a very enjoyable place to work.
Tulip make me feel very valued and they treat us like they would any staff member, as they are always looking out for us and making sure we are getting the best from the whole learning experience.
It is very well organised as there is always something that we are doing. This means that I will never get bored as I am always busy which is what I enjoy about it.
I receive lots of support from both my supervisors. They help out and join in as much as they can do to ensure we all progress well and learn at a good pace.
We get lots of support from the employer as they like to come round and check how we are getting on with the course and wether or not we have any comments about it.
My salary meets my costs really well as I have lots of bills to pay such as car and rent, and I will still always find myself having money left over.
There are many opportunities as the hours are very good meaning that I can have the rest of the day to choose what I would like to do. I also have weekends off which allows me to make plans in advance and not have to worry about cancelling them.
Yes
I have already recommended tulip to a couple friends because I know how it all works and I think that they would enjoy it also. The staff are really friendly and will always be there to help.
Focus on the task you have been set and make sure that you are willing to learn as you would require patience whilst you are learning each specific cut. But it is worth the time and effort you put in.
