I work as a Helpdesk Technician in Bloomberg's Infosys department. My daily tasks involve taking tickets from internal clients for various issues with their PC's. Be it software or hardware. I interact with other employees from various departments daily, this provides me with a means to build a large network of contacts. As an admin on the company network I have many responsibilities which range from a basic software install, to updating drivers and fixing issues with network connectivity and deploying scripts for fixes.
During the course of my apprenticeship my IT skills and knowledge have developed exponentially. This is a field I have been wanting to get into for years and Bloomberg have allowed me to get neck deep in the IT field. My problem solving skills have improved greatly and the team have always been welcoming. I have definitely grown as a person.
The workload is excellent and manageable, at times it is very busy and stressful, however this is overshadowed by how supportive the team are even in busy periods. The company culture is a huge pull, many languages, cultures and backgrounds come together to create the Bloomberg culture. The year has exceeded all expectations.
I feel as though my job is worthwhile and actually makes a difference as we are the support for other employees and without that, the companies workflow would slow down due to tech issues taking too long.
While Bloomberg itself is a great place to work 4 days of the week. The training provider, "Step-Forward" - A branch of The Challenge known for NCS, is awful. The programme is poorly structured, the staff turnover has been ridiculous, the training is below adequate and has been a huge disappointment
Not sure if you can call it support.
My manager has been supporting me with alot of issues throughout the year. Be it personal, at work or with the training provider. My issues have been listened too and she has assisted promptly to the best of her ability.
Living costs, Travel costs, Daily Costs and social costs are all well covered in the salary I get. I'm able to pay rent, pay for my travelcard on my oyster monthly, pay for lunch most days. After paying the essentials off every payday, there's always left over for social costs and to treat myself if need be. It's a very good feeling to be able to manage my own money and also get my family christmas presents!
Company Events are great, the volunteering work is also very fulfilling. The team also goes out together on occasion which is always very fun.
