I am a manufacturing technical apprentice and I am currently doing placements that are 3 months in length. I get up to a variety of roles within a wide spectrum of departments. I am actively speaking to other employees finding out information I can use in my own day to day work. I currently make and adapt plans for projects and customers. I thoroughly enjoy the experience.
I have completed my PEO in engineering systems. Developed more people skills by talking to others about how to do things. I have become more punctual as I need to be in work for a certain time each day. I have learnt how to read people and take initiative as much as possible.
The work environment within Leonardo is very professional and well sorted. Most people are very friendly which makes me more relaxed. working within a team and group drives me to do better. The reputation of the company is really high so I enjoy to help keep It high. The programme as exceeded my expectations.
I feel valued by people in Leonardo as I am also helping to keep the company going. My supervisors give feedback to help me and I feel they see me as a regular employee rather than just an apprentice. I am given a lot of responsibilities with my placement which makes me feel really appreciated and valued. Some people do not seem as nice and appreciative.
Everything runs on time and with plenty notice. The induction was very thorough and interactive. The training I am provided with is strict but relevant to what I am doing within the company. If I am struggling with things I am given plenty support to whoever can and my manager will sort mentors depending on the issue. I have meetings with my managers every month and progress reviews. My program is very organised and well run.
If I need help and express that I do, I will be given it happily by tutors. When I am given support it is usually pupil based so I can pick up and find for myself where I have went wrong. I am not scared to go and ask for help as it is never thrown back in my face or laughed at.
If I need help and express that I do, I will be given it happily by my employer. Managers go about helping me in a way that allows me to learn for myself what to do and gives me contacts within the company that have expertise. I am not scared to go and ask for help as it is never un-fix-able
The salary meets my living cost fine, I am sometimes pushed for money when it comes to the end of the month. My travel to and from work costs for fuel, my rent takes a portion if my wages.
There are many internal and external opportunities that the company loves for employees to get involved with. Volunteering opportunities are given to all and the apprentices the same. We have free access to Edinburgh gyms also
Yes
Being part of Leonardo is a great achievement in itself but the knowledge and experience to have here is amazing. I have recommended a friend to the company and he has recently successfully got a job.
Put a lot of effort into applications and the tests to show your skill even before you go for an interview they will remember that. Give it your all during the assessment days to show your true skills and qualities. The opportunities are there if you are willing enough to put the hard work in.
