currently in my final placement in the mechanical engineering department. my role includes making changes to existing parts and drawings, designing new parts for various functions.
I have learnt various new skills that have helped me become a better engineer. I have got better at using Creo and this has then improved the standard of my work.
I currently enjoy my work due to having a clear path of what I want to do. My day to day tasks are interesting and I'm constantly solving problems. I feel less like an apprentice as I have been given more responsibility and higher level tasks.
I have been made to feel valued by management and other colleagues that are outside my normal working group. I have been recognised with a employee recognition award for design work and have also had complements from management for the way I have handled myself with external 'customers'.
I feel there needs to be more of a mechanical training programme once in my final placement. I rarely however have contact with the apprenticeship team purely due to the stage of my apprenticeship.
when I have required support I have always received it. this has primarily been extra support or explanations regarding my problem.
I haven't received much help from my manager or HR team however I haven't required any during this time. I have received help though from work colleagues whenever I have needed it and has helped get better at my job.
our salary is very good at such a young age. although my travel costs have risen I have still managed due to the rise in salary each year. I feel at the moment this is due to my low living costs. if I were to move into a home myself I wouldn't be able to do so with the salary I'm on and continue to have a good standard of life.
there are loads of opportunities for apprentices outside of our work. there I always an event or careers fair that the company is supporting which normally always involves apprentices. there is opportunities like going to the free gym for Leonardo employees or using the football pitch around the corner to have a game.
Yes
I would do so because it gives you a good opportunity to work and learn at the same time. the work life balance is great and your always welcomed when requiring help. as apprentices this is good due to us being inexperienced and new to most of the tasks. working at Leonardo is also pretty cool due the products that we deliver.
be yourself, don't rush the interview stage and answer truthfully. at the assessment days make sure your heard but not to bossy and loud. listen to others and make sure your thoughts are heard.
