My role in day to day basis involves the testing of electronic products made by my Company. I test a range of different products and learn how to test them and how to fix them when they aren't working, I also test products at hot and freezing temperatures to ensure that they will always work. During my current placement I have many different interactions with people around the company to.
During my apprenticeship I have already gained new qualifications an SVQ2 in Engineering. In my first year I was invited along to many awareness sessions giving me an incite into the different departments in the company and what they do this helped me within the placements to know who to go to with different problems. I have also completed an HNC in Engineering Systems with the company.
I enjoy the apprenticeship program due to the current work I am doing and the team I am working with. After being through 5 different placements I found one I genuinely enjoy and it makes me want to come to work. The team I am working with always help me if I'm working on something new or if I am struggling on something I have done before. The company definitely met my expectations
Leonardo are good at valuing the people who work here there is a scheme in place where hard work is recognised and vouchers for high street shops are gifted in return. Whenever I attend a recruitment event I am always thanked by management and all following emails from the venues are passed on.
The program is very well structured with a small induction at the beginning to cover all security aspects preparing for begin work on site. Support is received from management whenever it is needed along with a personal assessor to assess the SVQ3 qualification. I feel like it is also organised well with the placements matching the type of apprenticeship that I joined the company to do along with equal opportunity each apprentice follows the same path of placements in preparation to pick one at the end
When working day release at college I received a lot of support even if I emailed my lecturers during the week they always got back to me quickly to solve my problems. General attitude of all the lecturers I had was very positive and I feel like they made more of an effort to help knowing that I was an apprentice
I receive lots of support from my employer, any problems I have are always sorted quickly and without hassle. Management are very helpful with problems that I have anywhere in the company. There is also an on site Occupational Health department where I can go if I have a problem and they are always happy to help.
My salary meets my costs well as I have recently started renting a flat, my salary meets my living costs and my travel costs to and from work. The salary at Leonardo for apprentices is very competitive against other apprenticeships of the same level. The perks within the company also help keep my costs down like discounted cinema tickets which I use often
There is always opportunities outside of work this includes STEM events (As I am a STEM ambassador an opportunity given to all apprentices) There is always local career fairs and school career evenings. Other opportunities are the rampaging chariots robotic games and a free gym membership. Another opportunity offered by Leonardo is Holiday Hunger event during schools summer holidays where local children are invited in to have lunch and Engineering games for a day.
Yes
I would recommend Leonardo to a friend because I think Leonardo is a good company to work with.
I would recommend spending lots of time on the application as this is the first thing anyone looks at and sees. First impressions are important, also prepare well for the assessment centre as you only have one chance. :)
