My role at Syngenta is a control electrical engineering apprentice. On a day to day basis I work with a partner doing a mixture of routine work such as preventative maintenance, break down work and project work. Currently I have the responsibility of running a project to change pressure gauges with a reed switch to pressure switch transmitters to improve reliability.
since starting at Syngenta I have learnt many new skills not only in the field of engineering but also in maturity. I have completed my NVQ level 3 and my BTEC level 3 and am currently going through my HNC level 4. internally I am put through lots of helpful courses, most recently MEWTs training which has taught me how to drive mobile booms.
The apprenticeship has suppressed my expectations, I have enjoyed the apprenticeship and have met a lot of great people along the way. the culture at work is great everyone I have worked with has been keen to pass on their knowledge and have been patient with me for my learning.
I defiantly feel valued by Syngenta and can tell that the apprenticeship scheme means a lot to the company.
The structure of the apprenticeship is one of the best ive heard of. when I speak to people from other companies at college I always feel like the apprenticeship is the best. To add to this the learning and development team are still always working on improving the apprenticeship further.
Most of the tutors at college are helpful with some acceptations. I Do enjoy college however I prefer to be at work. if I had a problem I would go to someone at Syngenta and not college I would not trust college to do anything about my problem. That said, most of the tutors are very helpful and what my success.
I receive a lot of support at work, the people I work with day to day and keen to teach me new skills. The learning and development team is very helpful with guidance on all kind of issues. I always feel like I can approach people at work with concerns at full confidence they will be there to help me.
I am very happy with my salary I have enough money to get all the essentials, save money and have a good time on weekends. The pay increases throughout the apprenticeship very healthily. I am in my 4th year of work and am looking at housing already at the age on 20.
I have been to many events outside of work including a team building exercise in the lake district for a week. we hold an event every year at the local football stadium to talk about the company. We do events such as farm event where a bunch of employees go to a farm to see what are products are used for.
Yes
Yes because I have enjoyed my time there and feel like if anyone was interested in engineering then Syngenta would be the right place for them.
To go over and beyond the expectation of the interview, a bit of effort goes a long way in making you stand out from the other applicants. For my interview I made a power point presentation and presented myself and my interest to the interviewer who must have been impressed as I now have the job I wanted.
