I am a technical apprentice, currently I am working in a systems placement, this involves testing products and repairing them. Apprentices rotate placements every 3 months moving around the company so that they get a feel for how each department works.
I have completed lots of different courses such as: Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Manual Handling Training, Electrical Safety Training and Laser Safety Training.
The team I work with are always very supportive and there is always someone to answer any queries I have. The apprentice managers are always available to provide guidance and solve any problems that arise. Everyone in the company is very friendly and always happy to help.
I feel that I am valued by Leonardo as I am proud to be a part of the company and the team. There are many internal recognition achievements to strive for.
Ahead of my start date I was given full details on what I should expect and encounter at Leonardo, all of this was very accurate. I was thoroughly inducted and trained before any activities were undertaken. The apprentice team is managed by two apprentice managers who are always very supportive and helpful. I feel that the programme is structured extremely well as I am fully aware of what to do in situations and of who to go to if a problem arises.
The training provider is unfortunately not as effective as I would like, this is a problem caused by the tutors and the organisation of the college. On occasion, tutors are unable to deliver the key aspects required to complete assignments, therefore when attempting to complete an assignment, it can be quite challenging as the topic has not been taught correctly.
My employer is always very happy to provide support if needed.
The salary is very competitive for an apprenticeship. Many other companies do not offer salaries that are even remotely close to the salary at Leonardo.
Yes, there are always events to attend and activities to get involved in. Some of these are: rounders, badminton, cycle to work scheme and quiz nights.
Yes
