  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in operational support as a CI, Comms & Engagement Lead. I interact with DHL employees of all levels each day. I also interact with DHL employees on other sites on a ad hoc basis, also across all levels. I run a college development program across the 4 site of our contract.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently in the early stages of the course and I am currently reaffirming and developing existing skills. I also took the opportunity to do the same with my English and Maths along with the apprenticeship. I am hoping to develop onto the level 3 following the successful completion of this course.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by DHL?
  • I feel valued by DHL as they are investing in me to progress my career further with them. The investment makes me feel that I am appreciated and that they want to keep me around and keep me achieving and progressing with them as the company grows by being able to be more involved in future projects.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the program is structured well and leads well from module to module. The integration of the maths and English as part of it makes it relatable and is a great teaching technique. The support we get from the tutor is great he treats you as an equal, the only concern I had with the course is I would be treated like a child at school again which was not the case.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Excellent support can not fault in the slightest. We also have the added benefit of NUS which is a great bonus to the learning. All the sessions are held on our site which is great as there are no access issues. I also have contact details from my tutor for additional support if needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from the employer is good as they are the ones that suggested that I go for the course. My manager is supportive as she understands that in me taking the time for learning will improve the standard in how I complete tasks in my role. We haven't had much involvement with the HR team to be honest.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes I think so I haven't looked specifically but I hear continuous improvement is becoming more of value to businesses. I know DHL also have a big investment in it and there are plenty of opportunities across many sites and contracts.

  • 9. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel they are a great company to work for. They have many sites in local areas making it easy to look for new and career progression within the same company. With plenty of local sites it also means you can look for those opportunities with out the worry of relocation. How ever with DHL being world wide means that even if you choose to relocate there is likely to be a DHL suite near by you can tupe over to.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • The DHL recruitment process can be varied but the main consistency is when interviewing they look for examples in answers so be prepared for that. There are plenty of opportunities and various contracts in which you can work on if you apply yourself. They also have a great scheme to employee ex servicemen and help them get back into regular work after leaving the Army etc. offering support and guidance along the way.
