My role within the company, as an apprentice, is mainly to assist with maintenance operations within the factory. This involves fault finding, cleaning and maintaining areas around the factory.
Since starting the apprenticeship I have learnt how to make components on lathe and with hand tools, I have developed my knowledge regarding mechanical and electrical principles and I have also learnt a great deal about health and safety and environmental awareness.
My work is very enjoyable as there is wide range of subjects to cover. Each day could bring something new and I am constantly learning. My colleagues are supportive and friendly and the company treats the apprentices with due respect.
Tulip have made me feel welcome and I have settled in quickly. The management staff are up to date with my progress and give me credit where it is due. I have been involved with various jobs and projects which have all been enjoyable.
So far the course has had a good structure with relevant and appropriate training. I have had allotted time to complete my college work which is very useful. The only issue I could raise is the lack of a formal training plan between college blocks.
My training is at Bmet College and they provide more than adequate support for our course. The staff are excellent and thoroughly knowledgeable and contactable at any time.
I have received a great amount of support which I am very thankful for. I have been assigned an external mentor which I meet with on a regular basis to discuss my progress. If I had any issues there any many paths I could take to rectify the problem.
I can live comfortably from the wage I receive. As an apprentice I expected my wage to be considerably lower however Tulip provide their 1st year apprentices with a rate of £7.50 and hour which for an apprentice wage is very good.
Since working for Tulip I have visited 2 pig farms in order to consolidate our knowledge on the companies supply chain. I am also awaiting a planned trip to Multivac which I am very much looking forward to. furthermore external training is being provided in certain areas.
