Here at Aldi my apprenticeship is broken down into year 1 and then year 2 & 3, year 1 i am doing a qualification in warehouse and storage which involves me going round each department spending a period of time in each learning all about what they do and helping out with booking in deliveries, picking etc. Then when we start are year 2 & 3 it is a management qualification so we will go more in depth with the management side of things such as setting up shift, running shift, etc. We also get given little projects to do for example this year we are organizing three charity events in partnership with teenage cancer trust.
i have gained my maths and english since starting here, i have gained skills in all areas from driving different types of trucks, to learning how to operate the Pick by voice system aldi use to pick orders. I have gained a lot more confidence and communication skills as well just to name a few.
I Love my job as i get to do different things each day and pick up new skills everyday, i also get along well with my fellow apprentices and the other pickers and management in the Aldi RDC.
i feel very valued as we are always asked to take part in projects or tasks and we have weekly updates from our managers to let us know how well we are doing and if you do anything well while in a department you get a big thank you from the managers there who then pass on your good work to your manager.
it is very well organised, from day one we were given a 12 month plan of what we will be doing and where we will be going, if training is required then they will make sure we get it, also they allow us time out of our shifts each week to catch up/keep on top of our course work, which has been very useful as i am now 35% in front on coursework.
we have monthly visits from him where he will come in and watch us do tasks or he will have a recorded discussion about what we've been up to etc, as well as this we have a website where all our course work is uploaded for him to mark it all off its also used for him to communicate with us through and for us to see when his next visit to our warehouse is.
I get as much support as i need from the staff here at aldi, if i have a work problem or a problem at home no matter what it is, i will receive support from my managers, or other staff.
i dont pay much for living costs as i still live with my parents and neither with travel costs as i dont live too far away from the RDC and for daily and social costs the wage is pretty good, as the apprenticeship wage here at aldi is alot higher than normal apprenticeships.
with the skills and qualifications you can get from an aldi apprentice you will have a lot of desirable skills that other companies are looking for as they don't just gain you work based skills they learn you social skills such as your confidence when speaking to new people, when speaking in front of groups etc. But once you start working here at Aldi, you'll more than likely want to stay.
Yes
its a brilliant place to work as no two days are the same, the staff and management team will always give you help and advice, the pay you receive here at aldi is very very good and with the companies growth it could keep getting higher.
show as much interest as possible to the company, learn a bit of Aldi's background and be confident when speaking in the group assessment and interview. But mainly just be yourself.
