My job title is manufacturing apprentice, the daily tasks that I am involved in is the assembly, inspection and testing of the various different components that we make. Day-to-day this involves making sure that the tasks I have completed are up to standard and are of good quality to pass it onto the next step.
The new skill that I have learnt is being able to self evaluate the task I have completed to make sure it is of high standard. I have also completed a COSHH training course so that I am aware of the chemicals and how to handle them.
I really enjoy the work that I am doing as I like to be hands on also the team that I am working with at the moment are very helpful and a great team. I didn't really know what to expect coming into the programme but I feel it has outweighed my expectations.
I feel very valued within Leonardo as from completing a recent project I have received appreciation from my manager and the team which it helped. Also I received a voucher for the project that I completed whilst at college.
My programme is well organised and structured but also flexible at the same time which is a good way to run the programme I am on as the work can fluctuate therefore I can move in and out of different departments.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider, any problems that I have I can approach them and they will sort it as soon as possible.
I receive a lot of support from my manager, he is always checking that everything is going okay and if I have any problems I can go straight to him.
For me personally, I am a bit older than the usual apprentice age and I am paying for a mortgage and also travelling 66 miles a day to and from work so for me its not too good. However compared to other apprenticeships this is a good salary.
At the moment I haven't seen any out of work activities to get involved with.
Yes
Because I think it is a really good environment to work in, everyone is friendly and there are a lot of company benefits to working here (flexi-time, extra days off)
Don't be shy, it may seem daunting at first but everyone here is brilliant.
