I am a third year substation craftsperson apprentice, my job role is to help maintain national grids assets and fix equipment that have faulted
I have learned leadership and team working skills, I did this by running the jobs myself although I did have guidance from more experienced staff if I needed it.
I have enjoyed my time working for national grid they have supplied everything I needed during the apprenticeship whether that be coving my traveling expenses going to the training center or having trainers that are willing to help at any time.
I feel very valued working for national grid.
The overall organization and structure to my program was good as I was given a plan for the whole year so I knew where I was meant to be and what I was doing. the first year of the apprenticeship is mainly at the training center with a few weeks on site, the second year is more of a 50/50 split between the training center and site in which time you can start to get you jobs done for the logbook, which is the qualification you are aiming to get as you need to do jobs and supply evidence to get the qualification. the third year is mostly on site where you will finish off your apprenticeship.
you are offered as much support as you need you just need to ask.
