I am currently training to be a HVDC engineer with National Grid. My daily tasks include the maintenance of electrical components. My daily interactions include communicating with line managers and control centre team.
Since I started the apprenticeship 4 month ago I have already learnt a lot of new skills, including how to use mechanical machinery such as pillar drills and lathes.
I thoroughly enjoy the apprenticeship and opportunity it has given me. The chance to learn and work with state of the art technology is very exciting.
I feel like the company value me highly, this is shown by how much the company investing in our training and welfare.
The apprenticeship is set out and structured clearly which helps the steady progression of my development. The balance between being on site and off site allows me to gain new skills and experience.
The support I receive is excellent. National Grid have a dedicated wellbeing number which is there to provide a range of support depending on my needs.
National Grid provide a high level of support which helps me to reach my potential.
The apprenticeship salary is above average which I feel very grateful for.
The site we are based at has great facilities to do on the night. There is mountain bikes and also a golf course for me to enjoy after work.
