ETP- Higher level apprentice, to learn ad gain skills that will be appropriate to my job as an engineer. Daily tasks include various training, Either at university, at the Eakring training center or on site. This training is a balance of both theory and practical allowing us to see what we have learnt.
I have learnt lots of new skills, through university which is continuing my education, but other practical skills include working with metal, learning how assets work, lots of training courses provided such as being able to drive MEWPS, to being improving public speaking abilities and confidence.
I vastly enjoy the programmer that I'm on as I am constantly learning and pushing my abilities. There is also a good friendship and unity in both the group of ETP's that I'm on the course with and the team I am in when I'm located on site
I feel highly valued as the staff are inclusive and they are allowing me to progress with my knowledge and education.
We had an induction period where we shown how the company operates and shown the parts that we would play within the company. The course is very well structured and we have been told what is expected of us over the three years. We have mentors that we can talk to when we are on site, a business coordinator and a training manager that we can talk to when we are training. all of this is highly organized. we have reviews to see how well we are doing and to address any concerns.
Lots of support from the training manager, supportive and helps however he can
Lots of support, always somebody that you can ask and if they are unsure then they will find somebody that can help.
It is very good, as all the training costs are paid for accommodation while we have to train away and a car to travel to and from the varying location with a mileage rate.
Ability to become involved in STEM within communities. this is shown as we were offered the chance to partake in the national grid stall at the big bang fair
Yes
Brilliant program which is very well supported, through training and experience. It allows for opportunities that you wouldn't get else where
Make sure you know about the company and what they do not just within the electricity industry. Have a vague idea of equipment on site and how the transmission network works. Ask lots of questions on these days as you will gain a feel for the company and find out a lot about your potential future employer
