My role as an Apprentice is a Project Manager. Some of the daily tasks that I will be involved in include planning and scheduling as well as matters such as risk management. I interact with a number of different professionals on a day to day basis. Externally, I have interactions with different apprentices who may be doing other qualifications in comparison to me.
Throughout the course of my apprenticeship, there are a number of different qualifications that I will achieve, some of these are mandatory, others are optional qualifications that I have chosen to complete on the side. One of the training courses that I am currently working towards is a degree in Project Management, which should be achieved at the end of the 3 years of my apprenticeship. I have also undertaken a number of ERR courses that further help understand my knowledge of my rights as an apprentice.
I thoroughly enjoy the work that I am given to do at Rolls Royce, this is because it is challenging as well as interesting, therefore encouraging me to fully work hard at completing the work. The apprenticeship has met my expectations, I knew that the company that I was working for is excellent in what it completes, and so therefore I have found the apprenticeship to be exactly what I expected from a company such as Rolls Royce.
Rolls Royce as a company make me feel extremely valued as an employee. I have experienced appreciation from my managers in all of the areas that I have worked in up until now, which then encourages me even more to achieve well in the work that I have been given to do. As well as this as part of the apprenticeship I have been involved in a number of projects, the feedback that I have received from these has also been positive, therefore making me feel further valued.
The programme is well structured, we have been provided with schedules which enable us to see when certain tasks are going to be completed, and that way it gives us more of a picture as to which tasks we will be doing at which moment. As well as this we also understand the organisational breakdown structure that applies to our apprenticeship, meaning that we understand the right person to go to for the problems that we may face over the course of our apprenticeship.
I receive some good support from the training provider however sometimes this could be improved.
My manager provides me with a lot of support during my apprenticeship. I understand that if there are any matters that are concerning or troubling me, I can go to my manager with these problems confident that they will both understand and support me throughout the process. As well as this fellow colleagues also offer a lot of support, especially the current apprentice year that I am with, we all started work at the same time so share something in common.
The salary package for the company is comparatively low when compared to some of the competitors that offer apprenticeships of the same level. However, for my current situation the salary is suitable as I have not had to relocate for the apprenticeship. There are however, some who have had to move in order to complete the apprenticeship, and these have struggled much more with the difficulty of having to juggle the work that we have, and the costs of living here.
The company regularly organises events that occur throughout the year by means of the apprentice organisation. This is in order to enable apprentices to make new friends who are also currently carrying out their apprenticeships at Rolls Royce. Furthermore, the different sections of the company have their individual away days where members of these sectors will attend. For example we have away days throughout the year which is beneficial to meet the leadership for the sector of the business that I am in.
Yes
The company is perfect for an apprentice starting out on their working journey
One of the tips that I would give would be to make sure that you give everything you have in the interview stage, and remember that others see you as better than you see yourself.
