I carried out work experience at a Tesco Store. My job title was store assistant. I carried out daily task such as stocking shelves with store items, interacting with customers, and assisting in making sure the shop floor was kept tidy. I would reshuffle items throughout the day depending on store needs.
I learnt new skills and improved on others. I learnt how to use my time for maximum productivity. I was required to complete tasks within time limits in a regular basis. I was given thorough training on how to use shop machines and equipment. I have also improved my communication skills when dealing with customers. This job also helped me to improve my basic mathematical skills.
I generally enjoyed my role as store assistant at Tesco. The staff at the store were kind and helpful which made me feel more relaxed. We would work as a team to solve problems and complete various task. I very much enjoyed this aspect of the job. I also enjoyed the different challenges I would face when carrying out my tasks.
I would say I generally felt valued by Tesco. This was because I would receive feedback from managers on a regular basis. I was also recognised and praised for exceptional performance. Moreover, the managers would take on boards on any ideas I had. The working environment was very positive and any achievements were noted.
It was very well organised as I was provided with constant training throughout the experience. For each task or role, the managers made sure I was fully trained. I was given full information on what task I would be required to carry out and exactly when I would recieve training. I took part in staff meetings in which I was able to find out any information I needed.
The training provider mostly supplied me with support before the start of the process. I was given information on what to expect and how I should present myself. I was able to contact the training provider if I had issues whilst carrying out the work experience.I did not have to do this as all my queries were dealt with directly by the store managers.
I received support throughout the work experience. This was in the form of manager feedback and one to one sessions. I had many opportunities to ask for help or request details on how to carry out particular tasks. The staff at the store would also assist me if I was finding a particular task difficult.
My costs were met very well. I did not have to spend a great amount of money during the work experience. The store was relatively local and within walking distance. I saved on travel costs and I only spent money on food and drink. I was also provided with any equipment by the store.
I was regularly invited by staff members to take part in various activities and events on my days off. The activities included team paintballing, bowling and visits to theme parks. The staff would also socialise in local restaurants after work. My work experience was only for a short period so I only able to do take part in a few activities.
Yes
I would strongly recommend Co-op because they provide great support to their staff. The working atmosphere is good. The job also provides many enjoyable challenges and ways to improve your skills.
Always ask questions and request help if you require it. Have a good attitude towards staff and customers. This will result in a smoother, less stressful experience. Also, be confident and make good first impressions.
