  • I AM A TRAINEE TAX ADVISOR WITHIN THE PERSONAL TAX CENTRE. THIS INCLUDES MANAGING, ALONGSIDE A CLIENT EXECUTIVE, A PORTFOLIO OF CLIENTS AND PREPARING THEIR TAX RETURS, ASNWERING QUERIES THEY HAVE ETC. I AM CURRENTLY ON A SECONDMENT TO A GLOBAL TAX REPORTING TEAM

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • WITHIN 18 MONTHS, I HAVE ALREADY OBTAINED A CFAB (CERTIFICATE IN FINANCE, ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS). I WILL ALSO SIT MY ATT AND CTA WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. I BELIEVE I HAVE DEVELOPED BOTH MY PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO A LARGE EXTENT, INCLUDING CONFIDENCE, SELF AWARENESS AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • A LARGE EXTENT. THE TEAM I WORK WITH A VERY NICE, AND THE COMPANY GENERALLY PROMOTES A STRONG PEOPLE CULTURE

  • VALUED. YOU DO HEAR OF APPRECIATION FOR THE WORK YOU PRODUCE ETC, HOWEVER I THINK THIS COULD BE IMPROVED

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • THE CFAB WAS WELL STRUCTURED, AND THE SUPPORT OFFERED FOR THIS QUALIFICATION WAS GREAT (THE ABILITY TO CONTACT A TUTOR WHENEVER YOU HAD A QUERY WAS VERY VALUABLE). AS FOR MY ATT AND CTA, THIS IS SLIGHTLY LESS WELL-STRUCUTURED WITH SOME COMMUNICATION ISSUES. THE TRAINING IS SUFFICIENT

  • AS MENTIONED ABOVE, THE TUTOR CONTACT IS VERY GOOD FOR THE CFAB QUALIFICATION IN PARTICULAR. THE SUPPORT INTERNALLY FROM YOUR MANAGER, TEAM LEADER ETC IS GOOD

  • I RECEIVE GOOD SUPPORT FROM MY MANAGER AND MENTOR. THEY UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS ENOUGH TO PROVIDE ADVICE/GUIDENCE.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE IMPROVED. THE SALARY IS NOT IN LINE WITH PEOPLE AT YOUR LEVEL WHO ARE NOT ON THE APPRENTICESHIP,WHICH SHOULD BE LOOKED AT. FOR EXAMPLE I AM AT A HIGHER LEVEL OF THE 'PROMOTION LADDER' THAN A GRADUATE, AND THEY STILL GET A HIGHER SALARY JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE A GRADUATE.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • YES. THERE ARE LOTS OF COMPANY EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES TO TAKE PART IN, WHICH IS GREAT FOR TEAM BONDING AND SPENDING TIME AWAY FROM WORK.

  • Yes

  • I BELIEVE THE FIRM OFFERS GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR PROGRESSION AND IS VERY PEOPLE CENTERED.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • GET INVOLVED WITH AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, FOR EXAMPLE WORKING ON OTHER TEAMS DURING YOUR TEAM'S QUIETER PERIODS. START THE APPLICATION PROCESS EARLY IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR.
