Corporate tax compliance and advisory, assisting various groups of companies from small private clients to larger multi-national groups fulfil their corporate tax filing obligations and providing advice as required in respect of the tax repercussions of more complex transactions. I also am involved in the audit of tax for both group reporting and statutory reporting filings.
I have improved my professional skills in numerous areas, such as communication, stakeholder management, coaching junior members of teams and time management. I am currently confident in my role and am able to prioritise tasks to ensure the needs of my clients are appropriately met. I have also all but qualified as a chartered accountant with ICAEW with the help of EY.
The program is well structured, giving ample time for college leavers to balance their work responsibilities whilst studying for professional exams. The spread of exams also helps to facilitate long periods of office experience. There is also a good amount of structured training provided by EY in respect of specialty areas.
I feel that EY does a good job of ensuring that school leavers feel just as valued as graduate joiners to the team. This is particularly led by the regional team which I am part of. I feel I am remunerated fairly for my role (although it could always be a little higher!)
The scheme is structured well. I am aware of when all my exams are expected to take place over the course of my program which allows me to plan accordingly. I also have regular catch ups with my appointed counsellor which allows me to openly discuss my career trajectory and goals.
EY has a a specialist apprentice team which provides support through regular newsletters, check ins with my appointed apprenticeship lead to ensure I haven't got any concerns, and encourages me to obtain regular feedback to ensure I'm working to a high standard. I also have my personal counsellor to talk to as needed for support.
EY provides numerous sources of support for me in my career and personal life, and also has a variety of networks for different minority or impact groups such as it's women's network and LGBTQ+ network. I receive regular communications from senior partners about the business and local partners giving me additional comfort in my role.
My salary package is sufficient to meet my needs and is competitive versus other comparable apprenticeship schemes in my sector. I also receive a reasonable bonus annually which consists of a base bonus and performance based additional amount which I believe is a fair method of remuneration for the company to adopt.
I have many opportunities to socialise with my team in regular outings (pre-covid) and team building activitites. I am also given 2 corporate social responsibility days annually which can be used to assist with my local community through volunteering or other similar charitable like activities. We also have yoga sessions at the office!
Yes
I would recommend EY to a friend based on the fair remunerations, great growth opportunities and good possibilities for building connections to help further my career in future. I also feel that the company has a strong ethical and inclusive culture which is conductive to openness and improving its people.
I would suggest to an applicant that they research the firm and ensure that their individual ideals and infuse this fact into any interview answers. I would also suggest researching the specific service lines (of which there are many) that most interest the applicant to ensure that they get the best out of their experience at EY.
