On a day to day basis, I am involved in working on the administrations of various companies and solvent companies who are looking for a solution to come out of a distressed period. I work with creditors and lawyers, and we look at the ways a company can get through a tough period.
I have developed many skills. These include communication in the workplace, broadening my horizons as I am taking part in a 3 month overseas secondment to Australia, my presentation and teamwork skills as we work as a big team and I have supervision over some of my colleagues which is great.
I really enjoy the programme because I learn new things every day, whether that is at work or college (we study for the ACA to become a qualified chartered accountant) and the people that I work with are great. At EY we have a very good culture and the bonuses are amazing too.
I feel very valued by EY because they provide very generous bonuses which is brilliant. They also have a flexible working environment so we can work from home if we need to, and a relaxed dress code which is lovely. My colleagues are always very appreciative of my work which is great.
The programme is well structured. We spend periods of time in college studying for the ACA and have support from Kaplan. My service line also encourages us to attend training, which enhances our knowledge. The team hierarchy is well balanced and everyone is respectful of each other and gives credit where its due.
Kaplan have a wide array of tutors who are very enthusiastic and have a lot of knowledge in their subject area, which helps us to pass the exams well. They are on hand to help when you need it and there is a helpline who respond within a few hours.
EY gives a lot of support, through counselling families - everyone has a counsellor (not an actual counsellor!) that they can talk to about work stuff. We also have a buddy when we join and there is an attitude of positivity and everyone wants to help each other out which is really great.
My salary meets my costs, although I do not have to pay rent. However I feel like I am able to splurge a lot on lots of holidays throughout the year and pampering myself and buying nice gifts for my family and friends. It is expensive to live in London however.
We have many professional networking events with law firms which are fun, and these are for all grades. Recently we did pizza making and art. We also have lots of socials to mark occasions, and the Christmas parties are excellent! Most of the drinks are free too which is a bonus.
Yes
I would recommend EY because I enjoy coming to work every day to learn new things and to see my colleagues. The culture is great, there are always new project to hop on and we receive great benefits such as salary and bonuses which always helps - thanks EY very much!
I would say ... be yourself, and be polite. You need to be able to have a conversation with someone, and have thought about why you want to work for the team. At the end of the day we are all human, so mistakes are ok - but enthusiasm and positivity will get you far!
