  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is apprentice. I am currently working in a tem based in management consulting. On a daily basis I have to update the tracker of tasks for our team and send it round to the relevant stakeholders. I communicate with every single team member daily and rarely with clients. I also get involved in many projects at the same time and split my time between them

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying for an AAT qualification which is a braod accountancy qualification. We have to do some compulsory training in project management, agile training and basic accounting as part of my job. All our training courses are normally internal. I have learned a lot of networking skills also.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy being part of a big team of ncie people. The work can get a bit repetitive at times but the company culture and people is what really keeps me going. KPMG orginise many socials and lunches for us to reward our hard work. I think I'm achieving my goals and am on track for promotion.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by KPMG?
  • I feel like my manager really appreciate the work that I do and find me very helpful. I sometimes feel it's not necessarily reflected by my salary and bonus though, but on the human interaction level my team members always make me feel like what I do is important. We don't really get much external appreciation.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like my programme is very well structured. We have a clear path starting from the induction week where we get to meet other apprentices in our year. They provide us with slides on the training we must do over the next 6 months. They also list all contacts for support as well as assign our mentor, performance manager and line manager. They also give us schedule for our studies.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We recieve reasonable amounts of support from our training provider I think, however, I didn't require much support from them so I may not know 100%. Tutors seems very approachable and they always answer to my emails which normally relate to course content. We also have a KPMG training advisor who is very helpful.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My managers on projects are always understanding of my study committments. I also have a mentor who can help me with pretty much anything. We also have performance managers who help us stay on track to achieve our goals. General attitute towards supporting me has always been really good.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The only area where I feel not appreciated and not rewarder fairly is my salary and bonus. Livin in London is very expensive and having to rent a room is very hard. I don't feel like I'm in a position to save any money or even go on holidays as it just costs too much. My oyster card is like £150 a month.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • KPMG host a lot of events, socials for the whole department which allows you to meet people outside of your team. We also do a variety of activities as a team such as volunteering at local schools and helping local communities. You also get to travel on different projects which allows you to meet even more people.

  • 9. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think it is a good company to work for and a good name to have on your CV. Once you get into KPMG it opens up a lot of other doors for you, you get to work in different departments and the company culture is great. People are very nice and supportive. The salary is not great but it's still much better than many other places too.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I would say make sure your CV is simple and make sure there are no silly mistakes such as typos. Also make sure you google the most typical interview questions for HR interview as there won't be anything tricky. Make sure you get someone to ask you questions to allow you to practice.
