My job title is an Apprentice Programmer Analyst. My daily tasks are mainly to do COBOL tasks on the mainframe and create and provide supporting documents on the work done. Daily interactions are with my line manager and other colleagues for support or in meetings wither it be on the phone with colleagues based elsewhere or face to face. I am responsible for completing work asked of me wither it be supporting documents to work or projects on the mainframe which I am on most days.
I have learned many new skills in my apprenticeship. I have learned these through internal and externally through training courses provided. I have learned new programming languages within technology. I have also developed skills for example presenting to an audience and also public speaking which in return has helped me become more confident within myself.
I am enjoying the experience greatly it has helped me in many different ways wither it be learning new skills or developing new ones. I am enjoying what I do on a day to day basis and the team I am in is great. they are all very supportive if I am struggling they take time out their day to help me and I get on great with them. The scheme has met my expectations and more. I am enjoying the experience and look forward to continuing on with the apprenticeship.
I feel greatly valued by RBS. my line manager is very appreciative of everything I do on a day to day basis and is more than supportive also. Internal recognition is great more and more people recognise me and talk to me each day that has gone by. I am being involved in more and more things as time goes by as well.
The programme is organised perfectly. The induction was great because you learned about what is going to be expected from you. From the induction you learnt about what the company is working towards and how they are going to achieve their goals as well as learning the core values and principles of the company. I have a weekly meeting with a mentor and a bi-weekly meeting with mentor and line manager to discus what work I have and how I am finding it and if I need any more support.
The training provider is good and my assessor is very supportive always able to contact him if there is any difficulties in training work provided. The attitude for supporting me is great.
the support I receive from my employer is great. my line manager is more than supportive and incredibly understanding of my health issues. My manager is always available to talk to wither it be about my health or just any general issues I am having and is great to help with any guidance I may need.
The salary/package meets my living costs greatly which has allowed me to be able to move into my own flat and it meets my travel costs incredibly. it also allows me to do different things when I am not at work socially as well as daily.
there are many different opportunities outside of work as there are many different volunteering initiatives as well as events outside of the company. there is also the chance to join the moneysense scheme and go out to schools to run workshops at schools for kids and teenagers to help teach them different things at different age groups about banking and how to manage money.
Yes
It is a great company to work for as they are very supportive as well as being extremely flexible with working hours. You also have got many different opportunities with the company as well as a great salary package with a great pension scheme.
The application process is straight forward and not overly difficult and always remember it's your personal statement that defines who you are as a person so make sure you have a strong CV and personal assessment. if you having a telephone interview you have a small assessment to do on the phone but its not overly difficult so don't be nervous as well as being asked different questions on personal experiences. If you get through that successfully you will be invited to a formal interview that also has a role play part to it. As it goes you will probably be nervous but just try stay calm and remember they are just people like you just be yourself.
