  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day we would individually enter a new department and assist trainee solicitors with their role. This could include summarising documents or cases, checking or tying up transcripts, inputting data etc. On a daily basis we would have one-to-one meetings and de-briefing sessions with the trainees, as well as working closely with them. Most mornings we also had a talk from different departments and about Pinsent Masons in general.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As well as learning to work individually, to deadlines and directly for another person, I have been able to develop my ability to work in a team. We were frequently asked to work as a team on different projects, for example we were given a fake situation in which we were required to make a decision as a team on how best to approach it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the week, I especially enjoyed meeting the other students on the programme, as well as the incredibly friendly and welcoming trainee solicitors. The programme turned out to be more useful and informative than I expected. Most importantly there was a clear focus on showing us exactly what being a trainee solicitor would entail, as well as explaining more about the process from here on with regards to university. The advice given was very useful.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The trainees that we met every day acted as a mentor and point of contact for that day, and we were introduced to their supervisors. I personally felt the trainees were friendly enough to engage in a normal conversation. I also felt I could ask them questions when I felt I needed to. One thing that was evident was that they made time for us, making us feel valued.
