I am an assistant tax advisor, which requires me to work both internally with my team and externally with the clients to check tax numbers in the accounts of companies. Also, I do some compliance work and this requires me to make sure I am the centre point for the client and ensure all the information we need, we have both internally and externally
I am currently study towards the ICAEW chartered accountancy qualification and have my first exam next month. Although, my company have put on training sessions in the last six months to help with my day to day jobs and make sure i understand what is going on. I also have attended college a few times to prepare for my upcoming exams this year
So far ,I have thoroughly enjoyed my program as from the first day when I started, I have been welcomed and felt very comfortable with the team I have been working with and just the company in general has a very good vibe about it. I was quite worried being so young in an office that everyone would keep themselves to themselves but this is not the case, everyone is sociable and easy to get along with
So far as I'm so early into my career here, there hasn't been many opportunities to showcase anything spectacular, but every task or job i have done to help someone out has been acknowledged and appreciated. I have been recognised internally across my team and my Manager is very good at telling me what I need to do to improve as well as giving me credit for things i already do well
From my induction, the programme has seemed very structured and organised, as I can see what exams or training I will have around a year in advance, so I know what to expect. The training has been very beneficial and organised and they also allow time for studying too which will really help with upcoming exams
My training providers have both been internal and external, but both have been brilliant and very beneficial to me and helpful. The resources you are given are second to none as well as having your own personal tutor you can contact at anytime if you have any questions about anything and their attitudes are always brilliant.
From my employer, the support received was a lot more than I was expecting, they really do care about your training, both internally and externally, and how well you're preparing for exams. even tough my manager is not obliged to do so, she has helped me with revision on bits i was stuck on and if she couldn't have helped, i knew i had other people (such as a personal tutor) to ask
When I first got the job, I was very impressed with the wage I was given, however, after having worked for 6 months and there's certain things you need to pay for in terms of living and being able to travel to work, It isn't as lucrative as i first thought once you take out this things. However, i wouldn't say I'm unhappy with my wage but i also wouldn't say its anything to special with the hours worked
there are plenty opportunities outside of work ranging from events around the world to activities within your own team. I particularly enjoy the activities with my own team as it gave me a chance to get to know everybody and settle in, in a different environment to an office. I have also done some CSR work since being here which involved helping out a local park
Yes
I believe the culture is second to none, and the people they recruit are good people and not just people with the qualifications. Even when i was applying for the job, they were trying to get to know me as a person as oppose to just looking at what grade i achieved, this does not only make you feel valued, but makes sure people are recruited who everyone is likely to get along with
the advice I would give is to not to try and hide anything, as EY really try and get to know the person behind the job application. I'd also suggest getting to know as many people as you can if you attend assessment centres or onboarding days as you might begin to work with them in the near future, they aren't enemies, more like colleagues and friends
