  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In this work experience program we worked towards getting a CMI qualification in Team Leading. Day to day we got talks from various people along with meeting external clients who set us challenges to complete. For the last week we got to enter one of the departments to see how they work and what they do.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I personally developed my communication skills and I am now much more confident when meeting/speaking to new people and now feel like I can approach people much easier than before. I also now have a CMI qualification in Team leading. I also learned how the company works as previously I never knew much about EY.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I personally really enjoyed the program. I got to met a lot of people, some of which were students also doing the program and some who where employees along with some people outside of the company. There was a really friendly atmosphere at all times and never felt formal when it didn't need to be. Everyone came across as friendly and interested in you. I personally really liked Jack as he made me feel comfortable and speak.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • I feel the people at EY did care about me and everyone else. They were always interested in what we thought and always encouraged you to try new things. In my department that I went too, I felt appreciated and comfortable as they looked out for me and were always happy to help me if I needed it.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The whole program was structured very well. We always knew what we were doing and if there was confusion then somebody would help us to find out what we were doing. It never felt rushed as there was even time at the end to improve our CMI answers if needed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received a lot of support from EY once I had completed the program. I was assigned a mentor who helped me with applying to university and looked over my personal statement. While I like this I'm not sure how useful this is overall as I never feel like the help was needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received plenty of help while at EY and when I left. In general if I had a problem I knew who to go to. People did care about me and all the students in general and treated as a normal employee. This helped make us feel comfortable. I personally got to learn a lot about my department by speaking to people from around the world who were in that department.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary for the program was very fair and helped ensure that all travel costs were met along with any money we needed to spend while working in our departments. I never was worried about money while at the program. It was also very clear when we were getting the money and if there were issues with it, it was clear who to speak to.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I was offered the chance to join the EY foundations board after the program. Overall though I do feel there is not much for people who finish the program in terms of further opportunities or if there are any, they are not very clear. I think EY should have further programs for people who finish this one.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I really enjoyed working at EY and met some very nice, friendly people. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am very glad I took. I would recommend it to anyone as you will met new people and learn new things you might never otherwise. The salary is also very good considering your age when you join the program. There are also some opportunities past the program but I don't feel there are enough.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • The application process is very good and straight forward. I would recommend just being honest as EY want to get to know you and won't judge you based on who you are. The phone interview is not stressful and very informal as the interviewer will ask you some questions to get to know you but will then just try to have a conversation. It doesn't take very long after the interview to find out if you were selected.
