  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is a Public Sector Internal Auditor. I work on different clients sites every week up and down the Country. I complete a wide variety of audits from human resources to finance to IT and therefore although there is a lot to learn with the role, I feel it is really good as to experience a wide variety of department within different organisations. I am required to write reports for clients on a weekly basis including recommendations and comparisons against other organisations within the sector. I specialise in Social Housing, which can be really interesting as there are a lot of changes in the sector as well as topical issues such as Grenfell which impacted the sector last summer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst working for Mazars they also pay for me to gain the Internal Auditors qualification (IIA). Mazars give you study time off work as well as pay for the revision sessions held by IIA. We also have biannual housing training days where we have presentations from outside organisations come in and give talks on topical issues as well as in house speakers from varying departments such as fraud and GDPR. I think the job allows you to gain lots of knowledge and helps to increase communication and confidence as you are always talking to new people. We also have company wide training courses to assist with out professional development within the firm.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have just moved training provider to star my new course therefore have not had any support from them yet except with the sign up process in which there have been really helpful. I was learning with BPP who I found could be disorganised in terms of ensuring resources were readily available and the online resources seemed to have a lot of issues due to IT.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my managers and the more senior members of the team are also interested in my progression. I had a mentor when I started at the firm which was good to have help on the job side of the programme. When I have issues it is always easy to get help and I always know where to go or my questions will be passed on. The general attitude towards supporting me is really good and I am really grateful for this.
