Test Analyst Review

My role at Capgemini is a 'Test Analyst'. My daily role is application testing, this involves working closely with a team who work for the client as they prepare the test environments and installing the correct data onto our test machines. After just 7 months I am responsible for organizing projects I am testing and feeding directly into my Test Managers for progress updates.

When starting at Capgemini you are sent on an 8 week intensive training period called 'ALE'. This brings you up to speed with all required Programming Languages for the Digital Degree. This period also improves on interpersonal and presentation skills necessary for the workplace. I will also be undergoing necessary testing qualifications whilst in position.

I found that it's best not to have expectations when going into Capgemini. The culture is incredible and everyone makes an effort to make you feel valued. I love everything about being an Apprentice and am always supported by my team and peers.

Whilst I have been in office I have worked hard to improve current project outlines and this has been recognized within my department in the form of allocation vouchers. I have also been recognised for the voluntary Apprentice work I have done to promote Capgemini by External sources and praised for such. When you reach this point of recognition it makes you very honored and can only further your value levels.

There are times you do not believe how long Capgemini have been running the Programme. Mainly it is the Apprentice events that are unorganised as the managers deal with a lot of people, all in different stages. Although this can sometimes be a nightmare I have not found it to infringe on my actual work and the business environment itself is hierarchically structured.

Support from Aston University is always positive. Sometimes lecturers themselves are too busy to answer questions however teaching assistants are always keen to be able to guide you in any way they can. It can be difficult to balance evening lectures and working during the day however if you are willing then there is the support offered for you.

My personal team allow me to shadow them and learn any technical testing requirements. This support has allowed me to branch out and put myself forward for any events or opportunities that sound interesting. Everyone within my department are keen on seeing me progress which usually comes in the form of support.

Out of ease I live at home so do not have any living costs. However my biggest expense is my car; petrol and insurance. I have found that the salary is more than adequate to cover this and still allow a comfortable social life. Especially with the rate that a lot of apprentices get a pay rise, this covers any monetary concerns.

If you are willing there are many events that are organized by the company to give back to the community. All events are voluntary and range from giving talks to school children, prospective apprentices, personal development (The Princes Trust). Outside of work and studying I find there is a lot of time to do social events or be part of clubs.

It is a very positive, comfortable company to work for. If you are willing to put in the effort to drive your career then it certainly pays off. People respect maturity and assertiveness but will always have fun.

The application process is long. Personally it took over 9 months from putting in an application to the date I started in office. Don't worry if you haven't heard anything off the management team, remember 'No news is good news'. Everyone is in the same position as you and will be just as nervous as you are, but you all have the right to work at Capgemini so be self-assured.
