My role was in the Smart Futures programme and everyday we were given different tasks to do. We started 9 am everyday and sat through a presentation lead by one of the team members on skills we would need for a CV or a job, then we’d be set off to do tasks for the day. This would include making our own presentations, trying to sell our own product, trying to work in groups etc.
I learnt many skills I’d need for my CV, I developed skills including communication, presentation skills, IT skills, group work.
It was very very enjoyable, I made some good friends there and the programme allowed us to make friends through ice breakers and encouraged us to all work part as team, we all got along really well so it made the experience really good. The lessons taught were extremely beneficial for us, and the one week business work experience was really interesting to see what day to day life would consist of working in an Accountancy firm.
I felt very valued, they gave me a mentor who emailed me to ask how I was and if I needed any support leading up to exams or finding a job. They treat us very well as if we were one of their own employees and I’d love to work for them in future.
It was okay, not the best structured as there was sessions we would be sat trying to complete powerpoints to achieve our CMI certificate which went on too long and I feel as if they were a bit unorganised. Other than that we had strict timetables for all the tasks we needed and the objectives needed completed.
I still get emailed frequently and if I want any questions answered I know who to go to. I received lots of support during the programme.
The answer above applies to this question as my employer was EY.
Very well, working as a young teenager just to get some experience I was surprised we would be paid so I was very happy as it motivated us to do well.
Yes there are some degree apprenticeships as well as normal apprenticeships I would like to look into but yes there are many programmes available for school leavers as well as Uni graduates.
Yes
It was an amazing experience over all, really beneficial and I learnt so much. Again you can make some really good friends as everyone who gets the position will be outgoing. The mentor is an added bonus and EY will make you feel very welcome and treat you will lots of respect.
Be confident in applying, the interview is very difficult so try not to panic as the questions may throw you off but I thought I did terribly and I still got a place! Take lots of time doing the application process too as there’ll be lots of applicants.
