I am an assistant technician within an infrastructure team. My day to day job includes doing 3D modelling using Civil 3D. I also use CAD to create drawings for projects. I work closely with engineers and other technicians across the company when working on projects.
I have learned about Civil Engineering through my college course. I have also learned about 3D modelling when doing a Civil 3D course which was useful as it allows me to provide the skills required within my role in the team.
I enjoy working as part of a team. The complany as a whole is excellent and makes sure i am progressing well and are happy within my job.
My line manager regularly asks me how i am getting on in my position at work and asks if i am happy. I feel like recently, as i have been gaining experience, that i am getting more and more involved in projects. I go to meetings now and feel like i have more responsibility within projects.
The apprenticeship programme i am on is well done. i am day release at college and work four days per week, which i think works well.
I work closely with my mentor on a day to day basis so i would say i receive all of the guidance i require.
Within Arup everyone is always willing to give a helping hand and support everyone within the company.
I think that Arup pays quite well, however i think the work of a technician could be valued at a higher price.
There are several opportunities outwith work. There is a sports and social team within arup which holds events quite regularly.
