Within my time at Siemens I will rotate roles every 6months to a year. Within these I have been involved in month end reporting, accounting processes such as cost transfers as well as completing requests from the rest of the business. I have also spent a year in Procurement that saw me raising orders and negotiating with suppliers.
My excel skills have improved a lot since starting with Siemens, picking up skills for business that aren't taught at school. As well as this my communication skills have come on a lot, having to talk to people in higher authority and asking questions where I am unsure.
I enjoy the culture of Siemens. Being a German company they look after their staff really well. I get plenty of time for my studies and the people I have met have always been really welcoming.
Along the way I feel like I have had some good recognition, through the Champions scheme that gives you monetary rewards for exceptional work. I also feel like I have been involved in tasks that have challenged me, which has made me feel like I am making a real contribution, rather than just making the coffee!
The programme is well structured in that you know what to expect. You know when your reviews are, when you are moving placement. There is a structured study leave policy and training is always supported.
From BPP the support is great, you can contact tutors by phone or email and they are always willing to help. The materials they provide are also great and aid study really well.
My employer gives a lot of support when it comes to study, with generous additional paid leave allocated to study. They will also support you if you find you need to retake.
I am really happy with my salary, and am the envy of all my friends that decided on university. The reviews are also regular and match your progress made.
There are a number of opportunities to meet up with the other students across the country and we all get on really well. This also gives you a chance to see parts of the country you may not have yet visited. Locally there are also a number of clubs and events that happen onsite that you can get involved in.
Yes
I think the scheme has really helped in developing skills that I need if I want to work in business/finance and I wouldn't have got these from university. Instead I get to study as well as earn a wage and with prices rising I think more people should consider this option.
Research Siemens before applying, as having some background knowledge at the interview really helped. Try and get as much experience and take all opportunities so that when you come to apply you have a lot to tell them about yourself and your achievements.
