I am an apprentice and currently working towards Level 2 in supply chain operations. I am being trained in staging and configuration. I have been at BT for 7 months and have learnt how to put IOS upgrades onto Switches and configure routers and servers. I have still a lot more to learn. I am currently working on an IPad project for British Airways.
As I said previously I have learnt how to IOS upgrade switches and how to put configs onto routers and switches. Furthermore I have learnt how to correctly hold and move an object through the manual handling assessment. I have also learnt how to safely and correctly use and pump truck and strapping machine. I also intend to do a course with Cisco as well.
I really enjoy my programme as I find it very interesting. My co-workers are very helpful and everyone works as a team... at times. I get to go to other BT buildings and meet new people which I love to do. BT offers great opportunities as well, and in my opinion offers one of the best apprenticeship programmes.
I feel very valued as I am always kept on my toes to ensure I am doing the best of my ability. I have an apprentice coach who also checks up on my often to see how I am doing.
At first it was organised well at all because I didn't actually start my NVQ till about 5 month in. But now I am up to date and everything is going to plan.
I receive a lot of support. anything I find difficulty in I can have help immediately.
I receive the same amount of support as the training provider.
Not well as I live in London but have to travel outside of London to work. it costs my £240 a month on trains. I find this quite annoying because people who work in London get London weighting allowance, and if I were to work in London it would be cheaper for me to travel anyways.
Yes, I have been to a few company events such as BT building trips. there is also a Lake district trip that is meant to be coming up which I am very interested in. There are always a lot of opportunities here at BT.
Yes
I would recommend BT to a friend as BT support you a long your whole apprenticeship "journey" and will offer you many opportunities. In addition to this, BT will give you the ability to move about within the company and learn new and different skills.
During the application process you will need to have to work hard and make sure you stand out from the other applicants. With the interviews, make sure you are keen and that you showcase you abilities to the interviewers, in my opinion they want to see someone that is not the norm.
