I am a BT TSO switch and transmission engineer from day to day I will go around fixing faults and problems that I may face, for example fixing phone line and Wi-Fi problems running in fibre cables doing my part to connect the UK to network.
I have learnt lots of new skills within my short time at BT I have had numerous courses where I have learnt lots of new skills for example physics, how the network works and most importantly an overview of what BT actually does and what my job consists off. I have also improved my people skills as I have to work with people to complete jobs and meet new people as I go around.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme within BT meeting lots of peoples as I go around and learning lots of new skills which will help me further my career and life skills for the future.
I feel that as an apprentice I am fairly valued within the team as I am a new and innovative employee to the company bringing lots of new ideas and help to the company. However, in contrast to this I feel that people sometimes get fed up of apprentices due to them or me taking a long time to pick things up and can't doing anything on my own at the moment.
I feel that my programme is fairly well organised I mean they arrange courses for me to attend and college for me to attend to get my qualification in electronic engineering that'll I need to do my job. However, from day to day work its not very organised in my patch as I have to ring people to find out what i'm doing each day so it's up to me to find things to do.
I receive a tremendous amount of support from my trainer as if I get into any sort of difficulties I can ring or email my trainer and they tend to get back to me fairly quickly with the help needed to complete my job.
I will receive a good amount of support from my employer providing that I have asked for some help.
Unfortunately as I am an apprentice my wages aren't too good at the moment so could probably do with a bit more money however, as I go on throughout the apprenticeship my salary will increase which will be ideal.
At the moment there are too many, however as I come towards the end of my apprenticeship I will have a lot more opportunities as I have been told I need to learn my job first.
Yes
It is a good business to work for with lots of opportunities to proceed throughout the company furthering your career at BT
I would say have a clear mind on what you want to achieve at BT and most importantly be prepared its not just a one step process to get the job do your research and be prepared.
