  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in an apprenticeship scheme where I rotate between jobs every 6 months, under the 'Network' title. This allows me to build on a lot of skills through my four years as an apprentice. I also attend University once a week, for the four years giving me the technical knowledge I need for the job roles.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently in my first year of university so I am working towards a full degree which I will obtain at the end of my four years. I have gained lots of new skills like technical knowledge of networking equipment, cabling the up, configuration changes and day to day operational work

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My first 6 months doing a technical role helped me develop at the rapid rate, allowing me to develop in a range of areas. There was lots of opportunities to present and talk in front of teams to help with public speaking and various volunteering events. However the current rotation I am in, has provided very little work for me to do and has been incredibly poorly organised which has been disappointing for such a good start

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT Group?
  • When I first joined I was given projects to get on with by myself and I was able to lead a task from the very begging, this made me feel very trusted, it gave me the chance to show off my skill set from the very beginning. From then on I has been a good experience and I have a extremely supportive manager.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training provided has been good, it has always been helpful in up skilling myself. The apprenticeship has always come through in the end but there has been a lot of things that have been last minute or uncertain until the very end, it would be great if there was a more ordered structure

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There are a variety of people which I can go and see for support. The university provides people to go and see and you can also go and ask for help form the lectures. My line manager is always incredibly supportive and wants me to succeed in the best way I can

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I feel is great, I have come straight from school and to be earning what I am I feel is a great achievement. There are pay increases throughout each year of the apprenticeship which makes it very appealing. I only travel 35 minutes to work so I feel like this is covered very well in my salary

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company offers you 3 volunteering days to help in any way you would like, this can be to a charity of your choice or further afield. As an apprentice you are also encouraged to organise events and help out in any way you can which always gives you a sense of acheivment
