  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a voice core apprentice which see me in many testing roles mainly focusing on interoperability testing on the many SIP based platforms that BT offers

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many crucial testing skills with the more technical being how to read SIP transactions, how to configure CREs, SBCs and so on. However I have learnt many human skills as well with my time dealing with international customers, these include being able to listen and observe to then act on the information.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • What surprised me the most was how easily I fell into the job roles given to me in such a short time period and how I have adapted for it which has lead me to enjoying the job along with the university course I am taking.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT Group?
  • Being valued as an apprentice was one of my concerns however I have been given plenty of responsibility, taking over partially full time job roles to then sometimes be the email contact for more senior stuff on specific topics.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am one of the first years to be taking part in the BT degree apprenticeship program and it feels very laid out for even the short time it has existed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The university teachers offer some of the time whenever it is needed or requested by the students.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The apprentice coachers that are in place at BT always make you feel as if they are a phone call away for if you need there help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel that the starting salary and progression for the BT apprenticeship I am on is very fair, leading up to a competitive salary that fits industry average or so for when I finish my apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • BT constantly reminds myself as an apprentice about their volunteering days that they offer along with the clubs and services they offer at where I'm based along with BT in general.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As BT offers such a rich learning environment with great support and structure to your progression through this ever expansive job market that will then hopefully lead to a well paying job with a respected university degree at the end.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • The advice I would give to someone applying for BT is make sure that if you are really interested in it that you work really hard for it so that you have the grades to be able to get in then make sure you are the right charter for the job with the bets attitude as that is what will help you to stand out and really benefit BT so that you can benefit from BT.
