Support Office Level 5 Review

I'm in a management role, which mainly focusses on project management of partnership with external service providers and internal stakeholders. My day-to-day activities include contracting, planning, design, communication and implementation of new and existing intitatives.

During my time in this role, I have developed my skills in stakeholder management, negotiation and leadership. I have also had the opportunity to focus on my own personal development, including resilience, time management and self-awareness. I have found it hard sometimes to adjust but my manager has been supportive to make sure I learn how to cope.

I’m part of a wider cohort, and this is really valuable to my engagement in the programme. I think the content is very interesting, which motivates me to find out and learn more. I’ve been keen to make sure I apply my learning to the day job where I can.

I feel valued for the work I do by my line manager. I'm trusted with activities that support our team goals and visions, and given ownership for key projects. My Line Manager is supported of me learning more, and understand how this will add value to my performance longer term.

The training provider has designed the programme, so that it complements our job roles, and encourages us to be engaged. I have regular tasks that are required to be completed away from lectures, and this makes sure that I stay focussed on completing the programme. I can see how the theory relates to my organisation.

I have regular lectures to support my assignments, as well an academic coach who meets with me regularly. I also have all access to all the resources available to full-time students, this includes a 24 hour library, student services. If I have any questions I can email the course lead.

My Line Manager is very supportive of me completing the programme, and takes an interest in how I am performing, and what I have learnt. She has regular reviews alongside me and the my coach to understand how I am performing and how she can support me in my role.

The salary far exceeds the expectation of an apprenticeship. I am paid the market rate for the role I am doing, rather than a basic apprentice wage. I’m also eligible for a staff discount card, and other perks as part of the business reward scheme. Most of my training his held on site or locally so travel costs are minimum.

My manager gives the opportunity to get involved in projects that stretch me to learn more. I'm supported to develop my career within the wider business through our corporate L&D programme. I am also a member of external groups that allow me to connect with external companies to gain a broad insight to support my role.

Boots have been delivering apprenticeships for along time, and many of the apprentices employed are still here. They provide lots of support to the new apprentices who join the business. I get support from my function, and the senior leaders take an active interest in how I am performing. I receive further development workshops that help me focus on my own personal self-awareness, that support my growth.

Make the most of as many opportunities as you can, be keen to learn more, and constantly ask questions. Quite often you can learn something, but don't realise it's importance straight away. Being an apprentice at Boots can lead to a long career, where you are valued for great performance, and your acheivements are celebrated.
