My job role is an FTTP network delivery engineer. Day to day I connect customers, new site plots and businesses to our fibre network providing the best quality of service I can. I work as part of a team of two and rarely deal with customers face to face. Usually our connections take place before the customer moves in. I am responsible for safety, my own as well as those around me and I am responsible for providing the best possible service for our customers.
I have passed my level 3 diploma and BTEC in Telecoms professionals. I also have completed many internal courses as part of my up skilling and training all over the country. An external example would be a completed City and Guilds. Some courses and skills include Fibre splicing and jointing, D-side and E-side network jointing, climbing poles and ladders and cabling courses involving the blown fibre network. I have learnt skills that I never would have without this apprenticeship.
I enjoyed completing many courses and learning new and challenging skills enabling me to become a fully trained and experienced engineer in my field. I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy working within a close knit team and even more closely with my buddy on a daily basis. I have enjoyed becoming a part of Openreach and BT as a brand and company and learning new values. It fully met my expectations and I would recommend the programme.
I feel incredibly valued. I am respected by my colleagues and seniors. I have received E-card rewards and recognition from team members for various projects and tasks carried out/I have been involved with. My manager contacts us regularly and we have one to one meetings and reviews which adds to feeling appreciated within your team and the company.
We received a study day every month with our apprentice coach who was our direct point of contact as was always available to talk/give advice whether it be to do with work or NVQ. We also had 12-weekly reviews on our progress with our coach which added to the excellent structure and support of the programme.
We received excellent support from our apprentice manager and apprentice development coach providing us with many different avenues for support and guidance. Any issues we had the environment was comfortable enough to take the issues to any of the above and for it to be completely anonymous and the correct help would be given.

My salary does meet my daily living costs adequately. It allowed me to save money and put a deposit down on a house with my partner. It has allowed me to travel, pay for holidays and go out with friends, family and other social events/costs. The pay progression has been excellent allowing great development throughout the apprenticeship.
I have taken many external opportunities such as attending 'What Next' events at the BT centre in London, allowing excellent networking and learning opportunities. I have also been able to volunteer at schools and collages career events, representing the company and its apprenticeship programme. Other offers such as Duke Of Edinburgh awards and many other sponsored events are made readily available through the programme.
