I working in an EMEA Core Cash product management team, we work as part of Treasury Services and provide products across CB, PB and TS. On a daily basis their is small amounts of BAU which includes responding to queries from Ops and Sales. Including questions from clients, which makes this a semi-front office role.
The biggest skill I have developed is written communication. I have always found public speaking has come easy to me, but have not had much need in the past to write emails and letters. Their have also been plenty of training courses made available to me which I have taken advantage of.
I think I have a great working life, with a team that I enjoy being part of. The company culture is one that promotes continuous improvement but in an environment where you have the resources and support to succeed. Plenty of events are also arranged to help network both with senior managers as well as other new-joiners.
Appreciation comes in many forms, often good feedback through online systems. Good work is visibly rewarded across the company, not only is your day to day job a factor, but also activities outside of the company. The company appreciates work done in the communities, as does the surrounding area. From day one I have felt like an asset to the firm.
We began with a 'Boot-camp', this was a great way to be introduced to the company and the life within it. From their, we have had a structured education that has had clear goals thought as well as reviews and support meetings. Plenty of speakers are also brought in to speak to apprentices from both inside and outside the company within the first few weeks.
The training provides arranges bi-monthly meetings for face to face reviews where you have the opportunity to discuss concerns you may have, you manager will also be there for part of the meeting and they will give an insight and help into your work. Another bi-monthly meeting is used to review your exams and coursework.
JP has offered a lot of support, not only do they provide apprentices with learning opportunities and personal help. They also promote the idea of having a mentor, which I have personally found very beneficial, when faced with an issue I can go to them for advice that has always ended with a positive outcome.
I currently live at home and therefore my costs are low. But the salary allows me to save a comfortable amount as well as cover monthly outgoings. Those who have moved out into rented accommodation have not expressed any financial issues to me and so I would assume that it is suffice for both.
On an almost weekly basis I receive opportunists to do good works outside of the business, this could be either one off events or clubs. They are very easy to get involved with, and the company shows their appreciation for those involved with these activities. Sports clubs are another option, their are vast amounts of clubs that I hear have been very successful.
Yes
I have previously recommended it to friends, because I believe that it has given me opportunities I don't think I could get elsewhere. It is an amazing way to get into banking and learn about an industry that it is very hard to get exposure to at a young age.
I think that you have to be yourself as cheesy as it sounds. It's very easy to spot somebody who is not being genuine. I also think that it is important to show that you are motivated to get involved. If you would like to know more, I suggest speaking to a current apprentice.
