Customer Service Executive Apprentice: Business Administration. My job role involves responding to policy holder's enquiries about their annuities. This requires extensive knowledge of annuities and the database systems used. Training and support is provided by technical staff and shared knowledge within the department. I am given opportunities for additional administrative side projects to help in various areas of the department. I am also given 20% of my work week to complete apprenticeship coursework and exams.
I have had opportunity for business skills development courses such as: Time management, Communication and Presenting. Future opportunities include: CV and interview training, Presenting at external career fairs, as well as participating in an event planning project to arrange our graduation ceremony. Within my job role I have continuously trained in the knowledge to achieve competency. With the support of the company and training provider I have worked on managing existing mental ill health issues while working in an office environment. Progress in this has been great and likely would not exist without the support/ efforts of: my manager, apprenticeship manager and apprenticeship tutor.
The working environment of Prudential is fantastic. The employees and management staff are open minded and willing to work with me to overcome hurdles. This has been instrumental in me achieving the ability to attend work and succeed in reaching my goals. A culture of inclusion, acceptance and eagerness to improve is present within all of Prudential. Offering a nurturing, encouraging and opportunity rich environment for any aspiring professional to succeed, if not thrive. I have enjoyed my time here very much and hope to continue on into the future.
I feel very much valued by Prudential. Success is celebrated and ideas for improvement encouraged; both personally and within the larger business. Everyone within the department takes interest in how my apprenticeship is progressing; my manager offering continuous help and support to it's completion.
A structured Learning plan covers the dates for exams and course work submissions. The training provider has been understanding and flexible in rearranging my plan in light of some personal difficulties that have arisen. Due to this I am now ahead of the original plan; despite initially being behind. In terms of work, Competency within the role is gained by achieving 3 licenses; relating to different work types. This measurable structure makes it easy to manage progression in gaining competency within my role.
I receive a large amount of support from my training provider due to mental difficulties I find it difficult to travel to unfamiliar locations. My tutor therefore, travels to me in order to completed exams and progress meetings. This support enables me to concentrate on the learning instead of panicking about new environments.
Prudential offer immense amounts of support and interest in the progression of my apprenticeship. Weekly meetings with my manager allow for easy communication on overcoming struggles. These enable focus to be placed on apprenticeship work when needed. Other staff and departments have also been of great help in aiding with research, information and ideas relating to my apprenticeship coursework.
My salary is comparatively high when matched with other apprenticeships. Within my current circumstances of living with my family it suits my costs perfectly.
Volunteering opportunities are very much a part of the Prudential culture. A 'community day' where the apprentices volunteered in aiding a care home in gardening and painting took place this year. We also have opportunities to present at career fairs and local schools. Company events and activities are also frequent. Training course are often run internally.
