I was a technician apprentice for bridges and civil structures within the infrastructure team in a engineering consultancy. I would help out with the drawing process main through CAD software.
Practicing and experience on a range of different projects helped development my existing CAD skills as well as learning new skills such as organisation, effective communication etc.
Very much so, I started my career within engineering very strong and was supported very well by my company and my colleges.
I do feel valued within my team as my skills and experience have allowed me to become a valuable member of the company.
The program was structured very well within my company however the college side of the program wasn't as well organised and experienced several problems along the way, however in all fairness this was partly due to the fact this was the first time the program has very been tried.
The support was adequate, most teachers where helpful where they could be. Sometimes systems and resources weren't the best. As I am dyslexic I felt the course wasn't shaped in a way that took me into account although I understand the course it designed in a style suited to most people.
As I mentioned before I was supported very well by my company and my colleges. Everyone was willing to give up there time to help me.
My particular apprenticeship I believe was well paid.
Arup has lots of activities and social events outside of work that create a better social connection with your colleges.
Yes
Becuase I believe this was the best path for yourself in my career which has allowed me to earn knowledge and skills whilst being paid and supported and with no debt.
Make sure you are certain this is what you want to do and be prepared to work hard and properly apply yourself.
